From the Gallery

More Information

This site is primarily for putting up pictures of our forthcoming wedding. Anybody that takes pictures on the day is warmly invited to add them to the Gallery here. More details on how to do that will follow as soon as the Big Day is over!

Travel

Directions are to the reception venue only; parking is very limited at the church so we will be running a coach from Rowton Hall and the Cheshire Cat at 11.30am on the day to get everyone to the church in time and to save you the stress of finding parking in a town you may not know!

Road

Take the M6 to Junction 20A, follow signs for North Wales, Chester, Runcorn and the M56, stay on the M56 to Junction 15, then join the M53 (signposted Chester, Wrexham), go onto the A55 (signposted North Wales, Wrexham), then branch left and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit to the A51 (aka Tarvin Road, signposted Chester), at traffic lights turn left onto the A41 (aka the Ring Road) signposted Whitchurch, at Boughton Heath Roundabout take 1st exit to A41 signposted Whitchurch, stay on this road and the road to Rowton Hall is the first right past the Cheshire Cat pub on the left (signposted to Rowton Hall), if you pass a garage you’ve gone too far, but fear not, take the very next right and magically you will be at Rowton Hall!

Rail

Nearest station is Chester, if you are going straight to the church there are infrequent trains to Whitchurch via Crewe.

Air

Nearest airports are Liverpool and Manchester – there is a rail link from Manchester airport to Chester, 2 trains an hour taking 1.5 hours to get there.

Hotels

As well as the reception venue there are 2 hotels about 0.5 miles away - walking distance for sturdy, rain hardened Scots, possibly a bit far in the rain with good shoes and a nice hat!

Rowton Hall Hotel

01244 335 262 the reception venue - spa, nice bar, posh restaurant, swimming pool, great grounds, top food is (ahem) £125/twin room/night (for 2), going up to £195 if you want dinner and breakfast.

Across the road are...

Cheshire Cat

01244 332 200 - £27/head/night - includes breakfast, nice B+B with good pub. Rowton Poplars 01244 333010 - £32.50/head/night also includes breakfast. I know little of it other than it has 4 AA diamonds and Jackie says it is very nice.

There are obviously other hotels in Chester, to find these try www.visitchester.com, tel 01244 402506.

Dress

As half the bridal party is Scottish kilts are being encouraged! We will be in the Black Watch tartan. Brian shall be resplendent in the Kerr tartan.

Kilt hire

  • Chester: Moss Bros, 31 Eastgate Street, Chester, Tel 01244 317 555
  • Glasgow: Hector Russell, 110 Buchanan Street Glasgow, Tel 0141 221 0217

Getting to the church on time!

As mentioned above we have organised coaches that will depart for the church at 11.30am from Rowton Hall Hotel and from the main road outside the Cheshire Cat, and will return to Rowton after the ceremony.

Meals and things

The church service is at 1pm and the Wedding Breakfast is about 4pm, so you may wish to consider making arrangements for sandwiches to prevent unnecessary hunger pangs through the afternoon (a sporran is very good for concealing sneaky Mars Bars!) Getting Back to where you are staying – If you decide the walk is too much, or are staying further afield you may wish to book a taxi home (Evening reception will finish around midnight, or at least the bar will close then...)

Photos

Should you have a digital camera we would love it if you could upload photos to the website here post wedding. There should be many more downloadable photos of the wedding there should you wish to save some memories of the day. Instructions on uploading will be here straight after the ceremony, alternatively you can mail them to Jamie, the Best Man, and he'll do it!

Finally!

And that's it, thanks for reading; we look forward to seeing you on November 25th!
